The 70 pint isn't a measure of how much the unit will hold. It is a measure of how much water the unit will produce in 24 hours. If you are using a hose drain there is no tank to worry about and the 70 pint unit just works faster.
The filter can be separated from the inlet grid. Then you can clean the dust on the inlet grid and filter with cleaning tools, and wash them with tap water.
What exactly do the 4 modes do? What's the difference between them?
Sleep mode = 50% and is low speed and quiet. Raining RH = 45% Drying is continuous on Standard is the RH you select.
Does the unit automatically shut off when the preset humidity is reached?
When it reaches the preset humidity, the fan will continue to run for a while until it stabilizes and shuts down.
